What is conscious eating?
It consists of a non-restrictive eating perspective, where we seek to pay full attention to the act of eating, using all the senses. It is about observing food, its flavors and textures, and listening to the body’s real hunger and satiety signals, without judgment. It is to eat with intention and presence, recognizing the origin of the food and our internal process. It is a way of eating cultivated and, most of the time, accompanied by nutritionists trained in this perspective.
How can this approach transform our relationship with food?
It can transform a troubled relationship into one of connection and gratitude. By eating mindfully, we become witnesses to our thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations without judgment. This allows us to value food, rediscover authentic flavors, and relate to food in a more intuitive and balanced way. We stop seeing it as an enemy or as a mere fuel and appreciate it as a vital experience that nourishes body and mind.
What are the benefits of eating more mindfully and compassionately?
Scientific evidence shows that this practice reduces impulsive eating and improves emotional regulation before food, leading to more conscious and less reactive choices. By integrating compassion into the act of eating, a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle is promoted, benefiting both personal well-being and our relationship with the environment.
