In 2011, a tradition started at the Faculty of Forestry Sciences of the University of Concepción. On May 3rd that year, as part of the celebration of Forestry Engineer’s Day, 300 plants were given to the community to promote urban afforestation. In 2025, 8,000 native trees were given to neighbors, in an activity that has been consolidated as a space for education and the valuation of our natural heritage.

The gathering, which brings together university authorities, researchers, public and private organizations, students, and the entire Penquista community, highlights the challenges faced by forestry professionals and researchers who are concerned about the effects of climate change, biodiversity conservation, and ecological restoration.

“Let these trees grow strong, as our commitment to the environment,” said Dr. Eugenio Sanfuentes Von Stowasser, Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Sciences.

The activity, organized by the Faculty of Forestry Sciences, is supported by the Vice-Rector’s Office for Institutional Relations and Outreach (VRIM) and other UdeC units. Institutions such as Aclara, Arauco, CMPC, CONAF, CORMA, INFOR, and the College of Forestry Engineers also participate.
