The journey of a radiotelescope
UdeC is leading the Leighton Chajnantor Telescope (LCT) Project, which seeks to move the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory (CSO) radio telescope from Hawaii to Chile. In collaboration with Caltech and the Shanghai Normalist University, this project will establish UdeC as the first academic institution in southern Chile to operate an international telescope.
Accurately measuring the universe
Ultra-accurate measurements of distances in the universe have been the primary goal for the group led by the astronomers Wolfgang Gieren and Grzegorz Pietrzynski. With the arrival of new equipment, it will be possible to encourage this type of research, which could shake the foundations of astronomy and cosmology as we know them today.
