An area of 25 hectares adjacent to the Heritage Campus of the University of Concepción is being conserved to preserve one of the last remnants of the relict ecosystems of Concepción’s deciduous forest.

That is one of the objectives of the Campus Naturaleza project, a pioneering initiative at the regional and national level based on science and the benefits that permanent contact with nature offers to humans.

In the current context of climate change, the University of Concepción uses nature as the compass for its work. This is done through ecological restoration, human well-being, and integrated health actions, among other lines.

With a robust sustainability approach, the lines of action converge on protecting a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem. This is home to tree species such as oaks, olivillos, and peumo, among others, as well as pudu, kodkod, monito del monte, tiger crab, and foxes, among the animal species.

In the University of Concepción’s Campus Naturaleza project, people’s well-being and overall health stand out, especially when they are in permanent contact with nature. In the future, the community will have a relevant role, participating in culture, education, and recreation activities in an initiative that is the biocultural legacy of the University of Concepción for the community, the country, and the planet.
