The journey of a radiotelescope
UdeC is leading the Leighton Chajnantor Telescope (LCT) Project, which seeks to move the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory (CSO) radio telescope from Hawaii to Chile. In collaboration with Caltech and the Shanghai Normalist University, this project will establish UdeC as the first academic institution in southern Chile to operate an international telescope.
Two problems, one UdeC solution
On the one hand, building houses requires new insulators made from sustainable materials. On the other hand, the timber industry is generating waste from eucalyptus bark that, when burned, produces tons of CO2. Discover how these two problems came together in the Technological Development Unit (UDT) to shape a solution licensed to the company Aislacor.
Earthquakes and data: science to make decisions
The Alluvial Basin Site Response Observatory (ORSCA, in Spanish) is a pioneering initiative for South America. The project’s eight seismometers, six on the surface, have been placed across sites with different geological and geotechnical conditions throughout the capital of the Biobío Region.
Research and teaching in different regions
From the mountains to the ocean, the University of Concepción’s Faculty of Natural and Oceanographic Sciences (FCNO) has six research stations to generate new scientific knowledge.
